We Say :- And now for something completely different…
Go on, take a look at the artwork for this E.P. Right, you got that.. a bequiffed zombie clad in leather trousers and wearing shades.
With bats.
Well, what you see is pretty much exactly what you get from Nottingham’s Dick Venom and The Terrortones. You may well think that the epoch of the big psychobilly bands has passed but these guys prove that there is still life in the old corpse with an all too short injection of good old fashioned Rock’n'Roll.
Sticky Pants Trance kicks things off in great style, the attitude and the energy that hallmark the rockabilly scene shines through, delivered with a touch of snarling punk swagger which carries on through the three tracks that make up this release. The title track slows things down a little while keeping the vibe going before proceedings end on a high with the up-tempo Lilly & The Killers.
Listening to it you can’t help but think the band have been slightly let down by the production job. Now I’m never a fan of over produced music, but rather than sounding “old school” this just seems slightly flat and it definitely robs the final product of some of it’s sparkle.
Don’t let that put you off though, RockinRollin VampireMan is a release which is well worth checking out from a band who clearly know exactly what they are about.
I bet the live show is something else…
