Halestorm – Hello, It’s Mz Hyde EP

They Say :- Formed by frontwoman Lzzy Hale and her brother, drummer Arejay Hale, Halestorm has been hailed an incendiary new force in modern hard rock.  Debut album “Halestorm” made a top 5 debut on SoundScan’s “Hard Music” chart upon its 2009 release, simultaneously bursting into the top 40 on the Billboard 200.   The album subsequently sold more than 300,000 copies in the USA and half a million cumulative tracks.  Produced by Howard Benson, the album earned extensive acclaim for its infectious hard rock anthems, sexy hooks, and rough-and-tumble grooves.

The new album will be titled  “The Strange Case Of…” and is heralded by the electrifying new single, “Love Bites (So Do I)”.  The single – as well as three other highlights from “The Strange Case Of…” – will be featured on Halestorm’s forthcoming EP, “Hello, It’s Mz. Hyde” which will be available in the UK from February 5 at all leading digital retailers.

We Say :- Right then. I love to listen to female rock vocalists a lot, I don’t know why I just do. So when the opportunity arose to review this EP I jumped at the chance, in part because of the hype surrounding Halestorm right now. And you know what ?? This is an amazing piece of work, it rocks hard and wow what a fantastic voice this young lady has.

The opening track goes straight for the jugular and will drain you dry of all of your life force as you bang your head for all you’re worth, neatly setting the scene for the rest of the EP. The music is in the classic rock vein but it’s not afraid to overstep the boundaries into other realms, it’s a mix that offers a surprising amount  of variety, considering there are just 5 tracks on the EP.

That said, 5 tracks are nowhere near enough. This EP left me wanting more, a LOT more in fact, it’s just that damned good. Vocally, this is possibly one of the finest female vocal performances I’ve heard. She has awesome power, but when reigned in the clean vocals are as soulful and pure. Just wow..

I was absolutely blown away by this EP right from the off, it is SERIOUSLY good. In fact I suspect I’ll be playing this EP to death, then I’ll resurrect it, just to play it to death again. If you don’t go out and buy this, then Mz Hyde will come to your house while you sleep and tear you limb from limb and, in all probability, write a song about how much she enjoyed it…. you have been warned!
