The Sun Through a Telescope’s 4-track E.P. ‘Summer Darkyard’ is, frankly, a bit mental. Imagine a brooding, moody mix of stoned out doom and “the darkest pop imaginable”. Easy listening it isn’t and yet there are moments of odd, atmospheric, beauty woven through this release (when it’s not making you jump with anguished, unsettling screams and that is) although the well worked shifts in texture and mood never quite let you settle .
Something for everyone it isn’t, rather a perfect soundtrack for the descent into insanity. Not for the faint of heart.
