Metallica performing Metallica, The original Black Sabbath lineup, DL2012 Best Ever ?

Well it appears that Andy Copping has pulled off the impossible, he’s made two Download 2012 announcements that no one (well, apart from the usual Facebook trolls) can argue with.

The 10th installment of the Download festival already looks like being something a bit special. After yesterday’s announcement that Metallica were popping by to play “Metallica” in its entirety, today saw the big reveal of the worst kept secret in Heavy Metal…

Black Sabbath… The original heavy metal band, returning with their classic line up. No wonder there’s a buzz about this unlike almost any other festival announcement we can remember.

At their LA press conference it was announced that Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, Bill Ward are back together for a new album, a Download headline appearance and a world tour….

“It’s like putting on an old glove. It’s fantastic.” – Tony Iommi

Speaking about landing Sabbath for Download, Andy Copping said “The reunion of the original line up of Black Sabbath has been one of the most talked about stories of the year. I am thrilled that the band  will return to Donington Park next year to help us mark 10 years of the Download Festival.”

OK, so it’s early days yet but Sonisphere are going to have to pull something special out of the hat to match that….

Weekend passes for Download 2012 go on general sale 9am Friday 18th November from www.downloadfestival.co.uk.
