Calum Harvie, metal journalist former editor of extreme music magazine Zero Tolerance, is looking for metal fans around the world to help him compile the Ultimate Metal Playlist For Runners.
Throughout 2011, Calum is undertaking a number of running challenges to raise money for charity Macmillan Cancer Support. Each month he is taking part in a race, which vary in length from 5K through to full marathon, around the UK. And he’s now seeking inspiration from fellow metalheads as he compiles the ultimate metal playlist to keep him company during the hours and hours of training and racing he’s currently undergoing.
Calum says, “I’m one of those runners who just has to have music to listen to while training. As a metalhead I obviously have some faves which are permanently on my iPod as I pound the asphalt – Judas Priest’s ‘Painkiller’ is probably the best running tune out there. Fact. But what I’d really like to know is for other metal fans to suggest songs to me which might help me through the long hours of running I’m doing this year. Cheesy, anthemic or brutal as hell – I’m open to ANYTHING, just as long as it’s metal and as long as it keeps me running.”
“Suggestions can be made on my blog http://runcalumrun.blogspot.com at the ‘Ultimate Metal Playlist’ page, and also at my Twitter account www.twitter.com/runcalumrun. I’ve had some awesome – and some hilarious – suggestions already, and I’ll compile all the ones which I use on the blog and acknowledge everyone who makes the nomination.”
“My fundraising running has already received a lot of support from the metal community, so if people would like to read more about why, and for whom, I’m running, then check out http://runcalumrun.blogspot.com for more information. There are also details there on how you can make a donation.
