2010 Year End Report – Dakesis

What’s been the band’s highlight of 2010 ?

There have been so many, but we all agree that supporting our heroes Thunderstone was the absolute highlight of the year, and probably our entire time as a band together! It’s not every day you get the honor of playing with the band that inspired you to form, and it was an extra delight that they welcomed us on stage with them at the end of their set to sing one of our favorite songs with them and take a bow!

Thinking back to a year ago, have you achieved what you hoped to ?

Well, all the boxes on our “to do list” have been checked with the exception of two: “Finish Album” and “World Domination”, so we don’t think we’ve done too badly at all! The past twelve months have been a total rollercoaster ride for us, but we’re going to press on in 2011 and hopefully get those last two boxes ticked!

What are the ambitions for the coming year ?

We’ve had some set-backs with the recording of our debut album, but once the festive period is out of the way that will be our first priority! Other than that we want to embark on a UK tour, play some more festivals and hopefully get over to the continent to spread the good word of cheese and steel!

Where would you like to see the band this time next year ?

Haha, Finland! I think at the moment though we would be happy to be absolutely anywhere so long as we had the album recorded!

If you could play one UK festival next year, which one would it be ?

Bloodstock without a doubt. We’re all keen festival goers and Bloodstock is the pinnacle of the Uk festival scene. It has the best bands, the best people and the best community spirit.

What has been your favorite album of 2010 ?

Although it was actually released in ’09, Adagio’s Archangels in Black has absolutely got to be the bands favorite album of the last year. Since Amie discovered Adagio we’ve all gone absolutely mad for them, and they’ve definitely influenced a much darker, heavier side to power metal for some of our new material!

And what is the best gig you have seen in 2010 ?

Iron Maiden at Wacken was spectacular as always, but special mention of course has to go to the three times we saw Thunderstone…

2011 looks like being a good year for gigs, any you are particularly looking forward to ?

Symphony X are playing in Wolverhampton on Gemma’s birthday, its been a good few years since we saw them on these shores so we’re all very excited about that (Gemma and Amie have actually been playing air guitar sweep solos and squealing non stop since the announcement…)

Wacken and Bloodstock are definitely shaping up to be amazing weekends as always too! Of course Iron Maiden’s tour can’t go without a mention! Also Adam is looking forward to some bloke called Devin Townsend, but he doesn’t sing about Vikings and phallic broadswords so the rest of us aren’t all that interested…

Of course we bought our Manowar tickets the moment they went on sale…but that goes without saying!

As for as our own gigs, we definitely cant wait for Twitrfest – especially cause the lovely Triaxis are on the bill!

If you could go on tour with any band or musician, who would you pick ?

After spending time with Thunderstone when supporting them in September we would love to be able to hook up for a tour with them, I’m not sure how long our livers would survive with those crazy Finns though!  However the list is endless for bands and musicians we would love to play or tour with – Evergrey, Sabaton, Symphony X and Adagio are hovering at the top of the list, but I guess Iron Maiden would have to be the biggie though, there’s no greater coveted support slot then opening for the Irons!

What would you like Santa to bring you ?

Lots of steel and cheese and of course Abbath with a big bow on his head.
